2021 Lafond Grenache

Vineyard

Lafond Vineyard is nestled in th heart of the Sta. Rita Hills and is a unique property because it covers both sides of the Santa Ynez River.  The Grenache block rests on the north side of the river and is marked with sandy soils.  To my knowledge there are only two vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills that grow Grenache, so it is a real treat to work with this fruit.  To say we love this vineyard would be an understatement—Sara and I got married at Lafond. As a winemaker, I have had the pleasure of working with Lafond’s grapes for decades.

Winemaking

To enhance the concentration of this wine, I applied a 10% juice bleed in the first 24 hours of skin contact. This was followed by a seven-day cold soak and inoculation with my favorite BM-45 yeast. The wine was aged in 1 year old French oak barrels for 18 months.
