Vineyard:
Located in the middle part of
the northern Santa Rita Hills, Zotovich Vineyard is farmed by the
Zotovich family. This exceptional site also benefits from the insight
and experience of our friend and vineyard consultant Ben Merz, who is
widely recognized as one of the best viticulturists in the region.
Adding to the site’s pedigree is its location next to such renowned
vineyards as Babcock and Melville. The soils at Zotovich are sandy, and
the row orientations are predominantly north-south. The clone 76
Chardonnay from Zotovich offers a crisp and vibrant expression of the
varietal with lovely aromatics and pure fruit elements. We have been
working with the same prized block for the past 14 vintages.
Winemaking
This
wine was fermented cold and slowly to preserve the expression of the
fruit. Throughout the winemaking process, my goal was to remain as true
to the varietal and vineyard as possible. After being inoculated with DV
10 yeast, no adjustments were made and no malolactic fermentation took
place. In order to preserve the wine’s fresh aromatics and crisp
structure, it was aged entirely in stainless steel before being bottled
on March 24, 2022.
